My TOP 3!
If you don't have time for all of the above...
do me a personal favour and check out my personal top 3!

Christmas in Connecticut (1945)
Barbar Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan and Sydney Greenstreet

A food writer who has lied about being the perfect housewife must try to cover her deception when her boss and a returning war hero invite themselves to her home for a traditional family Christmas.

The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942)
Bette Davis, Ann Sheridan and Monty Wooley

When acerbic critic Sheridan Whiteside slips on the front steps of a provincial Ohio businessman's home and breaks his hip, he and his entourage take over the house indefinitely.

White Christmas (1954)
Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen

A successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general.

Other great notable movies!
(that are not playing publicly this year - as far as we can tell!)

And So They Were Married - Mary Astor and Melvyn Douglas (1936)
Remember the Night - Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray (1940)
Holiday Inn  - Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire (1942)
I'll be Seeing You - Ginger Rogers, Joseph Cotten and Shirley Temple
Never Say Goodbye - Ida Lupino and Errol Flynn (1946)
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
A Carol for Another Christmas - Sterling Hayden (1964)
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964)
When Harry Met Sally -  Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal (1989)
Trading Places - Jamie Lee Curtis, Eddie Murphy, Dan Akroyd (1989)
Edward Scissorhands - Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp (1990)

  1. I can never tell whether Scrooge is the colourized version or not. I prefer the b&w version because the ghost of Christmas future bit is so much eerier and the contrast to the next day so much better.

    1. The 1938 version with Reginald Owen is definitely black and white. The 1951 version with Alistair Sims is the more recognizable version and actually called "Scrooge". TV stations often list it as "A Christmas Carol" hence you don't know which version you are getting unless they list the year and actor! Stick with Reginald Owen/1938 and you'll always get the B/W version!

  2. Fantastic post! This should be required bookmarking for any classic movie fan. Thank you very much for putting this extensive (and very enjoyable) list together.

White Christmas wins out as my all-time favourite Christmas film, followed closely by Miracle on 34th Miracle on 34th Street.

Happiest wishes for the New Year and each day of 2016!
