Is Toronto obsessed with Tiki?!
YES!!!
A year ago Toronto Vintage Society decided to test the waters by hosting our first Tiki party! We needed to know how the tiki/tropical/hawaiian/polynesian theme would sit north of the border! We found out that tiki-files came out in droves. This American obsession found it way into our hearts and YES Toronto-nians are loving TIKI Culture.
We have had a summer full of hawaiian shirts, surf bands and hair flowers. With winter ALWAYS lurking around the corner ,we deserve the breathe of tropical air!

For our first try...we think we did a pretty bang up job!!
So naturally we had to do it all again!...
We wanted it to be BIGGER, better...and include some more authentic Tiki/Hawaiian elements like a Hula performance from Halau O Hula Walea and Ukulele Jam by our own band the Gin and Tone-ics, we added the all new Vintage Swim Suit contest judged by pinup model Kassandra Love and new Miss Pinup Canada - Becky Page....plus we doubled up on our old favourites: 6 tiki Cocktails plus we invented one of our own using Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and speciality ingredients from BYOB Bar and Cocktail Emporium; 2 Surf bands - The Calrizians and Luau or Die; 3 Burlesque performances - Dolly Berlin, Tanya Cheex and a surprise first-time performer; 3 best-dressed categories with prizes from Doll Factory by Damzels and Exile Vintage. Our heads spin just trying to keep track of all this Tiki goodness!!!
As we prepped and planned we noticed that the Tiki theme caught on! A new slew of Tiki themed parties were in the works including: The Tiki Sea, The Great Lakes Surf Battle/Tiki Closing Party Tiki Patio Party at the Bovine, Retro Road Show: Hawaiian Style, High Society Cabaret: Tiki in the Moonlight, Mike Mahilini Scott and his Hawaiinaires...and I am sure we missed some! All of it just helped us to bring even more Tiki excitement to the city....before WE shut the summer down with our blow-out party!
